Neuropsychological Testing
Neuropsychological testing makes use of standardized computer and pencil and paper tests to measure your cognitive functioning. This type of evaluation involves assessment of how your brain functions including memory, attention, information processing, verbal abilities, visuospatial abilities, executive functioning (e.g. reasoning and problem solving), and sensorimotor abilities.
A neuropsychological evaluation can detect subtle changes in thinking compared to what would be expected for the person being tested. Reasons you may be referred include cognitive changes after a stroke or head injury and the effect of thinking problems on everyday activities such as managing money, healthcare decision-making, driving, and living independently.
Neurobehavioral Consultation
Neurobehavioral consultation can aid in the development of strategies to address behavioral challenges that arise following neurological injuries. Some injuries result in changes that affect mood, personality, emotional regulation, and how we interact with others and our environment.
I provide education and support to you and your family to modify the home environment, improve relationships, increase stress tolerance, and decrease impacts on work and school. Oftentimes this includes coordination with medical disciplines such as neurology and psychiatry to assess the need for and effectiveness of medication trials, when appropriate.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of “talk therapy” that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, stress and coping, and emotional adjustment to injury or illness.
Numerous research studies have shown that CBT leads to significant improvements in functioning and quality of life. In many studies, CBT has been demonstrated to be as effective, or more effective, than other forms of psychological therapy or psychiatric medications.
